Who is Rensselaer Urban Forestry?

Rensselaer Urban Forestry Council (RUFC) is a non-profit organization established in 2008 by Mayor Arihood comprised of volunteers from the Rensselaer community who value the beauty and ecological benefits of our urban forests.  Rensselaer has met the federal "Tree City" standard designation for 18 years and RUFC has continued to maintain and expand the health of our local tree population by planting 1,121 trees in the city. RUFC has received the Growth Award for 9 years from the Arbor Day Foundation and grants supporting our programs totaling over $223,150. Which we have used to create our tree nursery, plant trees, create educational publications, and establish an inventory of city trees in 2025 that will further inform the best strategies for future plantings.
